System Setup

...In the Finder

Place the file reFuse-PI, included in the reFuse package, in your DAE Plug-Ins folder (this lives in your System Folder). While you're there, confirm that the DirectConnect plug-in is installed there as well. If you do not have the DirectConnect plug-in installed, you can find it on your Pro Tools installation CD, or download it from Digidesign.

The most recent version of DirectConnect is 5.1.1cs9 (or 5.1.1cs10 for Pro Tools|24 MIX users). This version includes an alternate version of the Digidesign StreamManager file that sets the DirectConnect sample buffer to 128 samples, instead of the original 512 samples. While this can reduce latency, it also can cause audible distortion and dropouts. For this reason, we recommend that you start using reFuse with the original 512 buffer size, and only try out the 128 buffer once you are successfully up and running.

...In OMS Setup

You must set up a couple of OMS IAC busses. If you've never done this, here's how:

1. Find and launch the application called OMS Setup. It should be in Applications/Opcode/OMS Applications.

2. In the studio setup window, find the icon that reads "IAC Driver" and double-click it.

3. A second window pops up where you can name up to four IAC busses. These are like virtual MIDI cables running between applications in your computer. Create two IAC busses:

4. Under Edit/OMS MIDI Setup..., turn on "Run MIDI in background".

5. Click "OK", save your setup, and quit OMS Setup.

...In Pro Tools

1. Launch Pro Tools, and open a session (try the template "reFuse mono" from the "Pro Tools Templates" folder). Open MIDI/MIDI Beat Clock... from the menubar. Make sure it is enabled, and route it to the IAC buss named "ProToolsClock". Note that MIDI Beat Clock options are saved session-by-session, so you should check on this every time (although for new sessions it defaults to your last settings). (view screenshot)

2. Under MIDI/Input Devices..., make sure that "aaaMMC" and "ProToolsClock" are enabled.

3. Open Setups/Peripherals/Synchronization. Check the box labeled "Enable control of Pro Tools via MMC". In the ID box, type 0. Then, under the "Machine Control" tab, make sure MIDI Machine Control is disabled. (view screenshots)

4. Open Windows/Show Session Setup. Set your Session Start time to "01:00:00:00," and the Frame Rate to 30 FPS. Also, disable MTC unless you know you need it. (view screenshot)

5. In the Operations menu, turn "Low Latency Monitoring" Off, and turn "Active in Background" On.

* The "aaaMMC" buss is named as such so that it is always first alphabetically. If you already have all your IAC busses in use, you can use a different name, just make sure you are using the name that's first alphabetically when we get to setting up the "aaaMMC" buss.
